Dec. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- Electronics manufacturers should be aware that emerging technologies such as OPV (Organic Photovoltaic) and plastic electronics are particularly vulnerable to the impact of contamination according to Teknek, the global leader in contact cleaning.

This fact was highlighted in a recent presentation by Sheila Hamilton, Teknek’s technical director, to AIMCAL (the Association of International Metallizers, Coaters and Laminators) at their conference in Reno, Nevada.

She said: “OPV and plastic electronics make use of high barrier coatings which means that even miniscule defects are detrimental to product lifespan.  It is therefore essential to ensure that the proper contamination removal technology is deployed to increase yields, reduce waste and eliminate defects.  Independent research produced by DuPont Teijin Films1 has demonstrated that contact cleaning is more efficient than traditional vacuum systems, in fact on average 30% better.”

She added: “Our equipment is based on many years of research and development into polymer science to produce the optimum cleaning core.  This engineered technology will produce dramatic yield improvements when cleaning technical films.”

About Contact Cleaning
Contact cleaning was pioneered by Teknek 20 years ago and the company has remained at the forefront of the technology and innovations in this field ever since.  The technology uses a unique elastomer roller to gently lift dry, unattached particles (down to one micron in size) from the surface being cleaned.  The contamination is then transferred to a reserve-wound pre-sheeted roll of adhesive for disposal.  This method has been proven to be the most effective method of contamination elimination for critical processes as the roller makes direct contact with the substrate (without damaging it).  The key benefits of contact cleaning are increased yields, improved quality and reduced waste.
