Dec. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- Chroma ATE, a world leading supplier of electronic test, measurement, and manufacturing equipment, has announced its new Chroma 3110 Hybrid Handler.  The Chroma 3110 was developed with the semiconductor company’s R&D team in mind while still having the ability to perform low volume / pilot production test handling. Its compact size utilizes 98 cm x 126 cm of floor space and consumes even less floor space when docked over an ATE Test Head. Key features include the support of both FT and SLT applications, high contact force to 125 kg for high pin count devices, a device rotator with range of ±90° for increased tester orientation flexibility and support device packages from 3x3 mm to 55x55 mm. The Chroma 3110 also features the capability for the handler to be controlled remotely.

The downturn in the global economy continues forcing semiconductor companies to run leaner and diminish expenditures. One of the hardest hit in this environment has been the R&D groups. Out of these challenges Chroma has introduced an innovative solution to meet their requirements and management’s budgetary demands. “Companies can easily spend $1M on a single ATE System. Management can now optimize the use of their existing equipment before purchasing another one,” says Von Estacio, Product Manager at Chroma ATE Inc. “Calculating test time cost is typically done by increments of seconds. As a result, automated device handlers are required to maximize the company’s testing investment.”

Through the remote function, the Chroma 3110 can continue to move devices to the Tester during “off-hours” ensuring continuous use. Remote capability provides additional cost benefits since companies can potentially house their test labs in fewer locations, consolidate service and maintenance teams thereby reducing costs related to staffing, spare part inventory, tooling, shipping expense and building utilities. “At the end of the day in Silicon Valley, the engineer clocks out and heads home. The ATE system may sit idle until the engineer returns the next morning,” says Estacio. “Why not allow another engineer from Asia access to that system in California and control it remotely? Imagine how engineers could benefit from having more ATE Systems available to them during their work hours.”

Due to the global economy’s environment, companies are asking more from their engineers with a shortage of resources. The Chroma 3110 could make that request less daunting by offering features that encourage productivity to further expand their company’s growth.
