Don’t get caught by this scam which leaves fraudsters in pocket
Holiday home lets are being caught up in an old scam that seems to be wide spread across the globe.
“The cheque of course arrives but is in excess of the rental amount. The supposed applicant then makes contact to make sure his cheque has arrived and of course he is told he has paid too much”.
“The property owner agrees to pay back the difference in value only to find out that the original cheque is bogus”.
It sounds obvious however most people are just not following the simple rules that apply in these situations:
Always be wary of emails that are not in good English and have poor content.
Always wait for the funds to clear before you return any money.
Let the purchaser know that cheque payments must clear before they can rent your property
Be careful to who you give your personal information to including bank account numbers.
