Bridgeport Village Prepares For The Biggest Shopping Day Of The Year
Portland’s premier shopping and dining destination Bridgeport Village and its merchants are preparing for the busiest shopping day of the year December 17, 2011, the Saturday before Christmas.
While Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is the biggest shopping day of the year, the busiest day in terms of sales is the Saturday before Christmas, also called Super Saturday. Procrastination, along with the stress of completing the annual shopping list, compound to create a final shopping frenzy that culminates the Saturday before Christmas.
According to the National Retail Federations 2011 Holiday Consumer Actions and Intentions Survey, 17 percent of shoppers have not yet started their holiday shopping and, at this time last year, nearly 90 percent still had significant shopping to complete. Overall, holiday spending is expected to increase nearly 3 percent, a higher than average annual increase.
“Historically the Saturday before Christmas is definitely our biggest day of sales at Bridgeport Village,” said Fred Bruning, CEO of CenterCal Properties, owners of Bridgeport Village. “We’ve had a strong season, but this Saturday is very important to our merchants.”
Bridgeport Village will be open for Super Saturday shoppers on December 17 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
