Sing in the New Year with the Winter Wonderettes at Sanibel's Herb Strauss Theater

Dec. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- There will be a special New Year’s Eve performance of the critically-acclaimed musical "Winter Wonderettes" Saturday, December 31 at BIG ARTS Herb Strauss Theater, 2200 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, Florida.

The evening will start with refreshments on the patio before the show, and there will be appetizers during intermission in the lobby. All are welcome to join in a round of Auld Lang Syne with the cast at midnight. A champagne and dessert reception with party favors will set the mood for a fun, festive farewell of 2011.

Tickets are $75. Show begins at 9 p.m.

"Winter Wonderettes" is set in 1968, where the Marvelous Wonderettes have been asked to entertain at the holiday party for Harper’s Hardware. Wonderettes Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy and Suzy transform the hardware store into a winter wonderland for their audience of fellow employees, friends and family. But when Mr. Harper, who is meant to appear as Santa for the party, mysteriously turns up missing on the night of party, the Wonderettes must combine their talent and spontaneity to distract from the absence of the jolly big guy in red. Festive tunes like Santa Baby, Jingle Bell Rock and Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town quickly warm the crowd, but when the chilling details explaining Santa’s sudden disappearance are discovered, the pressure is on for the girls to keep the Christmas spirit alive.

Wonderettes Guest Director Michael Stanek says, “Friendship, love and giving are all themes in the show. There is nothing more special to celebrate during this time of the year.”

A California production of Winter Wonderettes was described by LA Weekly as, “The perfect Christmas revue ... the musical numbers crackle with energy and joy.”
