Dec. 5, 2011 - PRLog -- (JONES GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, MBA, RICE UNIVERSITY, HOUSTON) – On November, 11, 2011, Craig Ceccanti, CEO of Pinot’s Palette (http://www.PinotsPalette.com) and Rice MBA graduate (2008), returned to his alma mater to lead a guest lecture at the Marketing Management class attended by the Full-Time Rice MBA candidates. “I’m very involved with the Rice Entrepreneur group, JGSEO, and presented a similar lecture to this group last spring. They must have really liked it, because a few days later I was being recommended for other speaking opportunities at Rice,” says Ceccanti.

Utpal M. Dholakia, Professor of Management, was among those who took notice. “In class, I try to integrate real business examples and applications to complement the marketing theory we cover.” His Marketing Management class is a core-class that every first year MBA takes and provides students with an understanding of core marketing concepts. Although his most recent research focuses on the Daily Deal online phenomenon, he notes the importance of building a general foundation for web presence and marketing.

Instead of recapping the original presentation, Ceccanti brought the Pinot’s Palette Marketing Director, Mari Sokolowski, into the project for a refreshed and focused perspective. The resulting collaboration was a presentation entitled, The Art of Online Marketing.

Sokolowski recalls, “We have a team-focused approach to tackling projects at Pinot’s Palette, and this project was a welcome topic. I concentrated on the tools used for online marketing and paid advertising, while Craig relayed his expertise in building websites, e-commerce and the importance of SEO.”

A core message of the presentation was the importance of each online pillar working together to drive home profitability. Topics also included branding, social media and partnerships, with examples from the familiar Paint and Sip Industry, B2B and large sized corporations.

“We wanted the lecture to be interesting and engaging to all of the students in the class – including those who will not be working in a marketing or online role after graduation,” says Ceccanti. Professor Dholakia agrees, “A company’s online brand and presence is more important than ever before. The significance of understanding how different facets connect online will continue to grow and evolve as the consumer’s daily experience is more integrated with online technology.”

The feedback from students was unanimously positive, “We wish there had been more time to discuss the content in more detail.”

The students may get their wish. Ceccanti has been invited to teach an elective available to Rice MBA students. While this idea is still in the conversation stage, Ceccanti plans to remain highly active in the Jones School community.
