Dec. 5, 2011 - PRLog -- Yoga’s first lady, Lilias Folan, of PBS fame will lead a special class December 8 to remember those who have served our country, and give back to the men and women currently overseas.

“We must not forget our warriors. I have had a connection to these brave people for as long as I can remember, and my passion for them runs deep. One member of my family was awarded the Medal of Honor for his brave work in Tunisia during World War II, and a doctor in my family parachuted into the Battle of the Bulge,” says Lilias Folan. “And we hear stories of bravery like that out of Afghanistan too. We must not forget them.”

yogahOMe has been collecting donations throughout the months of October and November for troops in Afghanistan, and Candlelight Yoga marks the culmination of the drive. Money donated will go toward postage for packages that will be sent directly to individual troops.

“Yoga in its essence embraces freedom,” says yogahOMe Owner Katy Knowles. “A soldier’s job is to work for peace and freedom, and we want to give them as much support as possible, especially during the holidays.”

Mia Supe, founder of the Military Support Connection, has been collecting the names and addresses of troops in need since 2003. Her brother, Master Sgt. Curtis (Bobby Elliott) was deployed to an area in Afghanistan in 2003, before a support system for the troops was developed, and wrote her with names and addresses of troops who received little support from home.

“My mission is for these soldiers to know they’re still important to us,” says Supe. “I want individual soldiers to hear their name at mail call, and to know there’s a stranger in the United States that cares about them. Some of these soldiers get involved in the military because they don’t have family, or they’ve got a rough life, so there might not be anyone else to send them packages.”

Individuals interested in contributing are asked to contact Mia Supe at supedude@juno.com, or bring their donation to yogahOMe Symmes before the final pick-up at Candlelight Yoga.

Candlelight Yoga will be held Thursday, December 8, 2011 7-8pm at yogahOMe Symmes, 11928 Montgomery Rd.
Symmes Township, Ohio 45140.

Those in attendance will have the opportunity to light a candle in remembrance and practice among the flames in a truly breathtaking class.

Cost: $10
