LOHAS Asia Forum 2012 Set to Land in Singapore

SINGAPORE – LOHAS Asia, an organisation dedicated to lifestyles of health and sustainability, will host an exciting three-day networking and marketing forum in Singapore from 28 February to 1 March 2012.

More than 400 Asia-Pacific LOHAS businesses and individuals are expected to participate in this first-of-its-kind event.

“We are incredibly excited for this opportunity to bring together hundreds of Asia-Pacific’s most committed LOHAS individuals and businesses,” said Adam Horler, president of LOHAS Asia. “The three-day LOHAS Asia Forum promises a number of world-class speakers, creative discussions and unparalleled networking opportunities.”

LOHAS, an acronym for “Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability,” represents a marketplace in which personal health, the environment, social justice, personal development and sustainable living are top priorities. It is one of the fastest growing market segments in Asia.

Approximately 16 percent of adults living in Asian cities today are considered “LOHAS consumers,” according to recent market research. They are among the most demanding, savvy and sceptical buyers in the marketplace, but they are also extremely loyal to products and companies that demonstrate a commitment to their beliefs.

The LOHAS Asia Forum 2012, held at Singapore’s Republic Polytechnic academic campus, will explore the latest developments in technology, branding and communication. Each day will begin with yoga, followed by keynote speeches from leading and inspirational professionals, and conclude with interactive workshops.

Featured speakers at the LOHAS Asia Forum 2012 include Raymond Nadeau, the founder and co-creative director of LBLM (Living Brands, Living Media Communications), who will discuss how to reach the LOHAS consumer through social marketing. Amena Lee Schlaikjer, a wellness innovator, will lead a discussion on innovative ideas for branding communication. John Rooks, the author of More Than Promote: A Monkeywrencher’s Guide to Authentic Marketing, will speak about the intersection of sustainability, language and culture. The architect Gaurang Khemka will share insights into urban design and resort planning. The LOHAS Asia Forum 2012 web site offers details for all speakers participating at the event.

LOHASian consumers represent the future of progressive social, environmental and economic change throughout the region. However, their potential as a consumer market remains relatively untapped.

“We see enormous possibilities in Asian markets for health-conscious and environmentally-aware products and services,” Horler said. “The LOHAS Asia Forum will put people at the forefront of this movement that is sweeping across Asia. It’s a great way to kick-start relationships that will ultimately lead to first-mover advantages in this market segment.”

In the United States, the LOHAS market segment is already estimated to be worth in excess of $200 billion annually, and rapidly growing, according to The Natural Marketing Institute, a strategic consulting, market research and business development company.

In January 2010, a survey of more than 19,000 adult consumers across 18 Asian cities revealed the demographics behind trends in this region. The LOHAS consumer in Asia is more likely to be female, older than average, better educated, and typically earns 10 to 30 percent more in income than his or her peers. This segment is attractive to ANY company.
