Building the Education Revolution with Gridloch
A family of educators based on the Sunshine Coast are laying unique foundations for practice of essential numeracy concepts through multi-answerable challenges and agility in thinking about number.
This scaffolding for practice of number by individual or collaborative challenge and adventure has attracted a new term to define its collective education and entertainment components - ‘edutainment’
The educational game application “Gridloch”
Gridloch is a game that adds creative dimensions to number, making it fun and interactive for classroom children and filtering some of the mundane and repetitive approaches for reluctant participants in classroom number activities.
The content designers and inventors of Gridloch Numeracy are Jason, Pauleen and Bill Novosel, whose family company is Bardroyal Books Pty Ltd.
All three have had eminent teaching careers and possess educational qualifications which support the quality of the game. Pauleen and Jason Novosel are educational authors, embracing the rising trend of e-learning.
Their Can U Cards Series of resources in Numeracy, Literacy, Preparatory and Early Years Learning enjoy international success with other titles soon to be released.
The Gridloch concept was developed from the learning styles of CanUCards transferred to mobile technologies to facilitate progressive learning trends.
Pauleen commented, “As an educator and user of tablet computers, I endorse their relevance as a learning tool in the classroom. Variety is an important consideration in encouraging all learners and their abilities in the classroom environment. Tablet computers take their place alongside the traditional resources as valued components in the progressive teacher’s range of equipment. Of equal importance, though, is the material presented on such resources. ‘Edutainment’
“Optimum learning involves elements of fun, exploration, instruction and discussion. If you take a step back and recall your own school experiences, it is usually the lessons that were different and that somehow inspired curiosity that leave a lasting memory,” observed Jason.
The levels of Gridloch deliver such an experience to learners of a wide range of ages and skills. The game improves vocabulary in mathematics, memory and persistence in problem solving.
Valuable and diverse discussion of numbers can also arise from the game.
Developed by iApps Pty Ltd, Gridloch is available for the iPhone and iPad for $1.99 and is ready for download from the app store now. Be sure to tell a friend and share the word of this interactive and thought provoking numeracy game.
