Dec. 6, 2011 - PRLog -- Trampolines are a lot of fun, but not much thought is ever given to what makes the trampoline allow one to jump so high, we just assume it is the elasticity of the material, right? Actually, the trampoline absorbs the energy and snaps back to its original shape thrusting the jumper into the air. BBCOR takes this trampoline affect into consideration whereas the previous BESR Standard did not. When the Ball makes impact with the barrel of the ball, not only does the ball contract, but also the bat contracts too. When both bat and ball snap back to their original shape, coupled with the bat speed, moment of inertia and other factors, the “trampoline effect” propels the ball further. That is great, right. Sure, but along with safety issues, there lies an opportunity for players to use an illegal technique known as “rolling” to break in the bat quicker.  By breaking in the bat faster, the “trampoline effect” is increased due to the breakdown of the material the bat is made of and gives the player a higher performance value.

“The new BBCOR standard levels the playing field for all players,” said Jim Garner, President of The Sportstation of Tinley Park, Illinois. “While batting stats will decrease, this allows for players and coaches to focus on their accuracy and bat swing to achieve the same results they were before, and this will make better players and improved coaching techniques”, said Jim Garner. The Manufacturers are addressing the new BBCOR standard by making thicker inner walls of their bats to minimize the “trampoline effect” and making aluminum and composite bats to perform similarly to wood bats.

Jim Garner explains why, even though with the diminished performance value of non-wood bats that purchasing a BBCOR bat still has advantages. “Composite and aluminum bats are more cost efficient to baseball teams for the sake of their budget.”  Jim also explained that the lower Moment of Inertia (MOI) allows for a quicker batted ball speed, easier maneuverability during the swing and will allow the batter a little bit longer before he swings the bat.

While manufacturers are not required to add the MOI figures to their bats, Jim Garner and The SportStation have teamed up with Future Stars Baseball Academy of Mokena, Illinois to allow players the opportunity to test the new BBCOR bats to find one that will work for their own style and preference. “Doing this allows the athletes to get the opportunity to try all the bats at once instead of one at a time in an environment better suited than our store” said Jim Garner
