Python's Terry Jones and Rocky Horror Show's Richard O'Brien Support Protest Film "We Are Many"
WE ARE MANY, a new feature documentary on the untold story of the biggest protest in history, launches on crowd-funding website Kickstarter. Terry Jones and Richard O'Brien are two of a stellar cast of supporters backing the ground-breaking film.
WE ARE MANY is a crowd-funded production that is currently going viral (Stephen Fry has tweeted in support to 3+ million followers). It features on the innovative New York-based crowd-funding site KICKSTARTER.
Pledges start at $1, with increasing benefits for larger amounts, and have already included a significant contribution from Richard O’Brien (creator of The Rocky Horror Show) who says: “The greatest tragedy of this event and the reasons surrounding it, is that Bush and Blair drove a final nail in the coffin of democracy on that day.”
"We Are Many" has also secured an interview with Sir Richard Branson who for the first time on camera will talk about his failed attempt to stop the invasion of Iraq in March 2003 by flying in with Nelson Mandela to take Saddam Hussein out of the country. Branson, with the backing of the then UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, had a plane on stand by at Johannesburg airport for the mission, only to be beaten to it by the start of the bombing.
"We are Many" has been five years in development. It is supported by a host of other high-profile individuals who recount their experience of the march, including: Tony Benn, Dave Randall, Bianca Jagger, Joe Corre, Tariq Ali, Jeremy Hardy, Michael Mansfield QC, Sir Andrew Motion, Craig Murray, Roger Lloyd Pack, Tim Pigott-Smith, Michael Rosen, Eugene Skeef, Noam Chomsky, Ahdaf Soueif, Phyllis Bennis, Howard Blake, Omid Djalili, Terry Jones, Richard O’Brien, David Hare, Janice Galloway, A.L. Kennedy. Some of these contributors are available for media interviews in support of the film.
The film's Kickstarter page carries a full list of backers to date including a video appeak by the award winning actor Mark Rylance currently appearing in Jez Butterworth's Jerusalem at London's Apollo Theatre.
