Nov. 30, 2011 - PRLog -- (Brooklyn, New York) — First Book–Brooklyn (www.firstbook.org/brooklyn) will hold its first annual holiday party to support literacy in our community on Monday, December 5, 2011, from 7:00–9:30pm at the Galapagos Art Space located at 16 Main Street, Brooklyn, NY, 11201 in the DUMBO neighborhood. The evening will include an auction and raffle featuring “The Best of Brooklyn,” as well as a live appearance by the popular band Tiger Beat.

Tickets to attend the holiday party charity event can be purchased at http://firstbookbrooklynholidayparty.eventbrite.com and will require a donation of $25 pre-purchased online or $30 cash at the door the night of the event. A special 2-for-1 ticket will be provided for educators and librarians who would like to attend. Please refer to the website for more information.

Donations have been received from companies and businesses representing “The Best of Brooklyn” to support this special effort for our children in need including the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Brooklyn Bowl, the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Brooklyn Brewery, Chellise Michael Photography, David Graves Fine Art, Dyker Beach Golf Course, Iris Nail, Marine Park Golf Course, Mast Brothers Chocolate, the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, NY Water Taxi, One Girl Cookies, Palo Santo, the Sheraton Brooklyn Hotel, Steve’s Key Lime Pies, Stinky Brooklyn, Stumptown Coffee, and more.

Additional donations have been generously provided by Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, Chelsea Piers, Circle Line, Coach, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Go! Go! Sports Girls, Gymboree, Kittatinny Canoes, the Liberty Science Center, Edison Park Fast, Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, Mystic Seaport, Nikon, The National, the New Jersey Jackals, the New York Islanders, the New York Jets, the New York Philharmonic, New York Skyride, Time Warner Cable, and others.

First Book–Brooklyn salutes the Brooklyn business community in its efforts to help raise funds to provide brand new books for children in need in our borough. Reading is core to a child’s ability to succeed in school

A rock band made up of YA (Young Adult) authors, Tiger Beat weaves Libba Bray's politically charged lyrics with Dan Ehrenhaft's arena-ready power chords, Natalie Standiford's face-melting bass riffs and Barnabas Miller's searing drumming that churns out a genre-defining sound chock full of fist-pumping rock tinged with after-notes of dysfunction and identity confusion. The band rose to the pinnacle of the rock scene in 2008 and will play two sets to contribute to the evening event.

"We’re so grateful to Tiger Beat and the businesses that have generously supported our efforts to raise awareness for children's literacy in Brooklyn. Thank you!" say Michele R. Wells and Jennifer S. Wilkov, co-founders of the First Book-Brooklyn chapter organization.
