Nov. 30, 2011 - PRLog -- What started as a celebration of National Adoption month in November, Alexemi Publishing’s donation of 100% of eBook sales of "The Mommy Orphanage" to benefit orphans in China, will be extended through the end of the year. To help increase the fundraising efforts, 25% of December sales of the printed version of the book will also be donated. The donation will be made to Half the Sky Foundation (HTS), a non-profit organization created to provide nurturing and stimulation for orphaned babies in social welfare institutes across China. The goal of HTS is to ensure that every Chinese orphan has a caring adult in her life. Find out more at

The Mommy Orphanage is a picture book told from a child’s perspective to present a unique twist on international adoption. When 6-year-old Emily expresses her feelings toward her adoptive mother through the exploration of an imaginary place called a “mommy orphanage,” the story helps spark conversation about children’s beginnings while reinforcing and strengthening family bonds. The 32-page print book was recently converted to a color eBook for viewing on the iPad, iPhone, Nook and other devices.

The book was created by the mother and daughter team of Cheryl and Emily Krass. When Emily was five years old, she created the concept of a Mommy Orphanage and Cheryl expanded it into a book. Emily was born in 2001 in the Guangdong Province of China and spent the first 9 months of her life living in an orphanage there. In June of 2002, her parents and big brother traveled to China to adopt Emily and bring her home to her new family. She is now a fifth-grade student in PA. “We decided to extend the program to include the printed version of the book to reach a wider audience in addition to those with color eBook readers,” commented Cheryl Krass. “HTS is doing such wonderful things for the orphans of China, we felt this was a way to give back and help them raise funds. They have now expanded their programs by partnering with the Chinese government to improve the social welfare system by co-training caregivers to enrich the lives of hundreds of thousands of children. I’m so blessed with a beautiful daughter from China and hope to be able in some small way, help the babies still there waiting for families.”

The eBook is available on at for $2.99 per download. 100% of the proceeds will be donated.  The print version is available from retailers such as and for $14.99, and 25% of all December purchases will be donated.
