By: The Smart Agency “We recognise that people in our region are being squeezed with the rising cost of living and the threat of unemployment in many sectors. However, this action will only have the affect entrenching positions and will hurt businesses just at a time when they need to be at their most productive in the run up the Christmas. “Our members are committed to success and work long hours to make a contribution to the economy by creating jobs and delivering tax receipts. Business owners and their staff don’t always receive the same benefits and pension entitlements as those in the public sector – although they are being asked to take a further hit in lost income today. “A further concern for the Chamber is the disruption to people travelling through our main hubs at Leeds and York stations. Any action that makes this region look less attractive and which hinders travel for people who are looking to grow their business will ultimately harm the local economy. # # # With over 2,000 members, Leeds, York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce is a membership organisation providing business services to companies of all sizes in the region.
