Where emergencies are sudden, roads unusable or ground conditions dangerous, WFP Logistics turns to the skies to get food in fast. WFP relies on airlifts to get food into some of the world's most hostile and inaccessible places, or to remote areas where much of the infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, further more WFP provides air transport for humanitarian aid workers involved in assessments and food distributions. However no matter how urgent the operation is, Safety is always the number one priority for WFP Aviation which has been recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Civil Aviation Authorities (CAAs) and a large number of air carriers as a legitimate body that assists in the organization of dissemination the latest safety initiatives around the world
From the WFP- Aviation Safety Unit ( WFP-ASU) core believe that there is plenty of room for applying a better safety principles, The World Food Programme in coordination with  one of  its  service provider Royal Jordanian Airlines and in collaboration with ICAO is hosting an ICAO Safety Management System Training (SMS) between the 04th – 08th December 2011 at Le Meridian , Amman- Jordan as part of its continuing efforts to promote safety culture in the aviation community.
The unit has noticed the need that the training has to address the senior management level and for that the training syllabus was organized to have an ICAO – SMS training between 4-7 December 2011, and an ICAO SMS for Senior Management in the 8th December 2011 ( 1500 -1800)
Increased attention to higher aviation safety measures is a priority for the World Food Programme - Aviation Safety Unit. It is indeed a critical factor to the success of managing the recognized Risks and Hazards in humanitarian and non humanitarian services within the growing regional aviation sector, by implementing the latest and most advanced safety management principles
In recent months, the WFP Aviation Safety Unit  - Sharjah,  UAE and in conjunction with heads of local civil aviation authorities, along with international organizations, have recognized the need to further enhance existing safety procedures in Humanitarian operations, and non humanitarian services by raising the safety techniques across all aspects of air operations and so offered safety management workshops and trainings to government and commercial aviation leaders.
