Get in the “Holiday at the Beach” Spirit
Flagler Beach is the place to be the first weekend in December for holiday fun for the entire family.
Enjoy live music as part of First Friday Music in the Park from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday night, with the traditional lighting of Veterans Park at 7 p.m. The entertainment lineup is rich and diverse, including local school children and dancers. Kids will enjoy free activities in the Flagler Beach Commission Chamber including photos with Santa and face painting by Cappy the Clown.
More than 20 local businesses will be open for holiday shoppers turned puzzle solvers as they stroll store-to-store collecting letters to solve the 10th Annual Scramble Ramble puzzle. The “game for grownups” starts Friday at 6 p.m., and completed puzzles can be returned to the Flagler Beach Historical Museum by 3 p.m. Saturday to be entered in a drawing for $100 and other prizes. Lucky winners will be drawn around 3:15 p.m. as part of the Museum’s 10th Anniversary Celebration of their Grand Opening which will include sweet treats and sweeter shopping deals, discounted memberships, and guided downtown historic walking tours. (Call 386.439.6262 to reserve a spot.) You can pick up Scramble Ramble puzzle flyers at many businesses in Flagler Beach, including the Flagler Beach Historical Museum.
Santa is the star as he returns to Flagler Beach, parachuting onto the beach Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. From there, he’ll assume his honored spot aboard the Flagler Beach Fire and Rescue truck. This year’s parade theme is “Flagler’s Got Talent” and groups can give ninety-second performances in the judging area to compete for trophies and bragging rights. After the parade, kids are invited to the Flagler Beach Fire Department for cake, refreshments and photos with Santa.
If that wasn’t enough fun for two days, the Flagler Fun Coast Bed Race will hit the streets starting at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. This race, originally scheduled in October, is an important fundraiser for the participating clubs and organizations and has definitely grown in popularity. With so much planned in Flagler Beach there’s no reason to go anywhere else December 2 through 4. The weekend will be packed with holiday festivities, specials, shopping, entertainment, a parade, car show, bed race and family fun. It will be the perfect opportunity to get in the “Holiday at the Beach” spirit!
