Nov. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- DENVER, CO  — Denver kicks off a multi-cultural holiday celebration with the opening of the Christkindl Market in Skyline Park on Saturday, November 26, at 5pm with festive performances and costumed officials.

A well-known figure at the Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg is the Christkind ("The Christ-child", pronounced /krist-kint/), the traditional Christmas gift-bringer in regions of Germany, Austria and Switzerland as well as a number of other countries, and is represented by a different young woman every year.

In Denver we recently announced that Ms. Evi Zillmer (photo attached) was chosen as our 2011 Christkindl. She will represent us at several events and will appear during our grand opening ceremony in full festive attire on November 26 at 5pm.

Opening Ceremony Information:

See the Christkindl in person during the official opening ceremony on Saturday, November 26, 2011, beginning at 5:00 p.m. The opening ceremony includes:
•   Opening Remarks by local representatives
•   Musical performances by local groups
•   The Christkind arrival and prologue
•   The Rocky Mountain Ringers perform
•   TEV Edelweiss’ award winning Schuhplatters

This festive German Christmas market continues through December 23 and takes place in Denver's Skyline Park on the 16th Street Mall with its busy pedestrian traffic and easy access by light rail, Mall Shuttle Bus, RTD or automobile; the Southwest Skating Rink is located just across the 16th Street Mall from the market.

The market’s normal hours from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday through Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, with extended hours for the Parade of Lights on December 2 and 3.

This year’s market again brings the sights, sounds and flavors of the holiday season with a German flair to the 16th Street Mall. Music, holiday lights and typical vendor cabins will dot Skyline Park area across from the Daniels & Fisher Clock Tower.
