Safeway Presents Its 12th Annual Feast of Sharing
Grocery Retailer Hosts Annual Holiday Event Feeding Complete Thanksgiving Dinner To At Least 4,000 Seniors and Neighbors In Need
About 5,000 city residents are expected to attend the Safeway Feast of Sharing, which brings together a host of community partners and volunteers, including the Salvation Army, Events DC, Metropolitan Baptist Church, SunTrust Bank, Centerplate/
“The only way an event of this kind can take place is through the spirit of giving,” said Gregory Ten Eyck, Safeway’s Eastern Director of Public Affairs. “All the partners associated with this function are donating their time and services because all of us believe we are not only sharing a holiday meal but also a message of hope to our neighbors in need. We’re pleased it has become a meaningful Thanksgiving tradition in Washington.”
Among the volunteers and speakers expected are DC Mayor-Elect Vincent Gray and singer Raheem DeVaughn.
In the job fair, the DC Department of Employment Services will be joined by several employers offering entry-level employment opportunities.
SunTrust Bank is sponsoring a free shuttle bus that will pick-up and drop-off people from six Safeway stores—Good Hope Marketplace;
The following are the partners contributing to the event:
• Safeway is donating all the food, drinks, supplies and centerpieces
• Walter E. Washington Convention Center is providing the banquet hall
• Metropolitan Baptist Church is organizing and providing many of the volunteers
• Salvation Army identified and invited those in need
• SunTrust Bank is sponsoring aprons for volunteers and shuttle bus service
• Securpros is providing security services
