4&9 Productions hits the road for FILMPROV Philly Style

FILMPROV is what happens when you take local, independent short films and ask experienced improv performers to create on-the-spot "DVD Bonus Features" like alternate endings, never-before-seen scenes and more!

Nov. 19, 2011 - PRLog -- 4&9 Productions, LLC takes the show on the road with FILMPROV Phily Style.  The popular Washington DC area combination indie film and improv show will make its Phiadelphia debut at the Maas Building on December 9-10, 2011.

18 lucky (and quick) improvisors will have the opportunity to study with 4&9′s founder and FILMPROV creator, Pamela Nash and local Philadelphia improv legend, Rick Horner, at a two-day intensive workshop, culminating in a live performance Saturday night.

The company has partnered with Project Twenty1, a Philadelphia indie film incubator, to identify the short films that will screen during the Saturday performance.  "So far, Philadelphia has lived up to its name," says Pamela Nash, the show's creator.  "I've had some great contacts with the venue and Project Twenty1's involvement really makes this a local show.   Instead of bringing films from DC, we will screen three films by Philadelphia filmmakers."  The selections will be announced on November 28, 2011.

Nash says that the goal of bringing FILMPROV to Philadelphia is to provide a new outlet for improvisors, and encourage collaboration between independent theater and film, "Too many times, there are these great short films, and they're sent out to festivals but not screened locally," says Nash.

FILMPROV was developed as a showcase for these types of films, but also as a new opportunity for improv to expand its audience.  As Nash explains, "Improv has gotten stagnant in DC, two theaters with two different styles of improv, and they teach their style and do their shows.  But without innovation and breaking out of those molds, we lose the very heart of improv, the spontaneity, the freshness."  The City of Philadelphia will have its first chance to see how FILMPROV innovates on December 9.
