Follow on Google News | Paragon Introduces 120 Volt Crucible Furnace for Glass BlowersParagon Industries has just released the Darby Dipper, a small glass blower’s crucible electric furnace. It will hold one flask and is rated to 2350 degrees F / 1287C.
By: Arnold Howard The Darby Dipper is made from 3” insulating firebricks and has extra ceramic fiber insulation in the walls. The kiln, or furnace, is equipped with a Sentry Xpress digital temperature controller and an S-Type platinum thermocouple. The digital controller mounts on the wall and is connected to the Darby Dipper with 6’ cables. Access to the crucible is gained through a 6” hole in the top. The kiln includes a firebrick cover with handle to place over the 6” hole. Sidewall heating elements are protected in dropped, recessed firebrick grooves. The stainless steel case can be adjusted with case tighteners. “Paragon was founded by Frances Darby,” said Arnold Howard, spokesman for Paragon. “She would be amused by the name Darby Dipper.” Frances Darby founded Paragon in 1948.
