Duffy House Hosts 2nd Annual Free Gift Shopping Event for Abused Children

Nov. 17, 2011 - PRLog -- Burke, VA - The Duffy House is a 501c3 non-profit organization helping women and children survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse.  Recognizing that children recovering from such abusive situations are affected differently by the Christmas holiday, in 2010 The Duffy House held its first annual Santa's Super Secret Workshop event to allow these children to "buy" Christmas gifts for their families and extended families at no cost to them.  

The Workshop is a children-only place, and kids will be assisted by volunteer Santa's Helpers to find just the right gifts.  The Workshop shelves are stocked with donated items, or items purchased with donated funds.  Gift-wrapping is also provided at no cost to survivors.

The Duffy House is in need of donations to stock the Workshop shelves, and has created a Crowdrise fundraiser to facilitate monetary donations.  The fundraiser page can be found by clicking http://www.crowdrise.com/duffysecretsanta/fundraiser/duffyhouse

Donors can also submit their secure requests to donate gift items or sponsor a child monetarily by visiting http://www.theduffyhouse.org and clicking "Events."  Special "Spree Sponsorships" are available for $50 and allow a child to "purchase" gifts for every member of their family, regardless of number.  Monetary donations of any amount are welcome and appreciated.

Volunteers for the Duffy House are happy to pick up item donations, and pick-up locations can be specified on the Sponsorship/Donation form.

The deadline for donations is Thursday, December 1, 2011.
