Nov. 17, 2011 - PRLog -- Wall tiles come in many variations and there is also the wall tile size as well as different pattern variations and different wall tile materials, the type you choose will be based on quite a lot of factors and certain characteristics of wall tiles will make a difference to the overall look. Different shaped or sized wall tiles for example may change the illusion and the size of the room and certain wall tile types can open up small spaces, very large format wall tiles can work really well but too many and it can make the room appear smaller, it is all about having the right balance and sometimes this can be a little confusing.

Wall tiles come in standard square sizes, smaller mosaic tiles and larger format tiles and they can all be used to add design and make certain areas appear larger with more space.  The 4 ΒΌ inch wall tile is probably the most used wall tile and works well in square shaped rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens. This particular wall tile size is neither too small nor too large and works really well when the room is small also. The grout lines and the amount of grout lines will also play a part in the overall finish and sometimes too many grout lines can box in a room and make it appear smaller, this is also true for floor tile designs.

The mosaic varieties of wall tiles come in different sizes and can be as small as 1 inch square, these particular wall tiles work well in many design styles in smaller and larger spaces, the trend with smaller mosaic tiles is to use them in specific areas rather than use them over an entire wall space as too many mosaic tiles can constrict a room space and make it appear smaller. Mosaic tiles can be confined to specific areas such as around bath tubs and shower areas where the entire shower area can be tiled using mosaic tiles, the rest of the bathroom can use standard medium sized tiles which helps off set the balance of the mosaic wall tiles.
Larger format wall tiles have become popular over the last couple of years and there are several reasons for this, installing larger format wall tiles requires less grout lines which gives a smooth finish to the wall and many home owners like the idea of a smooth flowing finish but they may not work quite a s well in a very small spaces and the room should be big enough to accommodate their presence. Again larger format wall tiles can be used in small bathrooms or kitchens but are probably best confined to specific areas such as a shower area or the adjoining wall around a bath tub.

The colour and design of the wall tiles is also important and in general light colours will open up the room and reflect light well, darker coloured wall tiles will absorb the light and can make the room appear smaller. This can all seem confusing to home owners but as long as you follow the golden rules and think about bathroom and kitchen design carefully, the right choices can be made to suit your personal preferences.
