Centor support the Tall Ships Youth Trust

Nov. 17, 2011 - PRLog -- On 11th November 2011 a team from Centor Insurance & Risk Management had the opportunity to sail on-board the Stavros S Niarchos with the Tall Ships Youth Trust.

The Tall Ships Youth Trust aims to support young people with disabilities and from disadvantaged backgrounds through sailing. By taking the young people out of their comfort zone and into the challenging environment of sailing they try to promote teamwork, citizenship, healthy lifestyles and self-confidence.

The Stavros S Niarchos is an 18 sail Brig similar to those built in the 18th Century. At almost 60m long it has nearly 9 miles of rigging and is the largest Brig built in Britain for more than a century. It has a normal crew complement of 69 which includes a small number of permanent crew, a crew of volunteers and those who are along for the voyage.

On the day the Centor crew were put through their paces climbing the rigging, hoisting sails and steering the ship. After setting sail from Southampton the Stavros S Niarchos travelled down Southampton Waters to the Isle of Wight before returning.

After a very enjoyable day on-board the Centor crew returned to land exhausted but impressed with the excellent work of the Tall Ships Youth Trust. They have achieved considerable success in improving the lives of the young people who join the crew and Centor are looking forward to being able to continue supporting them.
