Nov. 17, 2011 - PRLog -- Today, the news we’ve all been expecting but depending on your viewpoint - to a greater or lesser degree - dreading has come in the form of a leaked document from Government.

The cut to FIT rates it appears is definitely goingahead, but not next April, as so many had
anticipated – no, in just five short weeks from now. It would appear from the leaked document that any work that hasn’t been completed by December 12 won’t be eligible for the current rate of £0.43 p/kWh, but will instead attract the new reduced rate of just £021 p/kWh.

Government sources have decided that a four per cent return on investment is perfectly acceptable – but I for one, disagree. This island of ours lags so far behind mainland Europe on almost all renewable technologies and this was our one chance to (no pun intended) shine.

Not content with these swingeing cuts, there are also enormous hints that the FiT will only be available to households who meet what it terms ‘minimum energy efficiency standards’ – although nobody thought to leak what those standards may be – yet.

Don’t those men in grey suits realise just what a big deal it is to put your hard earned savings into something very few of us really understand? After all, for most of us it’s not like deciding between a Fiesta or a Mini – we all understand the technical spec if we’re buying a new car and can compare each on its merits, but how many of us can say we could do the same with a solar PV array?

I believe this move will put so many people off the entire idea – people who may otherwise have made a leap of faith and actually helped this emerald isle of ours get a little greener. So much then for the self-labelled, ‘greenest government ever’.

Shame on them all!
