Nov. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Mount Kisco, NY – (November 16, 2011) – Mount Kisco Child Care Center (MKCCC) opened their new year-round greenhouse on November 14 with a special ribbon-breaking ceremony performed by pre-school children at the Center.

As the latest addition to the Feed Me Fresh comprehensive nutrition program, IBM volunteers and MKCCC staff spent two consecutive days erecting the structure in the Center’s Intergenerational Garden which it shares with their on-site neighbors, My Second Home, an adult day program of Family Services of Westchester (FSW). An IBM catalyst grant received in August and donations from Slow Food Metro North helped fund the project.

The greenhouse will contribute to MKCCC’s Feed Me Fresh program which aims to educate children in the Northern Westchester community on the importance of a nutritious diet. This hands-on approach fosters an appreciation for fresh, whole food. Children and staff at the center will maintain the greenhouse year-round, scheduling planting and harvesting as part of their programming.

“Nutrition education is essential for our growing children,” said MKCCC board president and IBM employee, Steven Wysmuller. “The Center provides a unique educational experience for children, encouraging them to participate in the farm-to-table process. This greenhouse is just another step towards bringing healthy eating choices to our homes.”

MKCCC is located at 95 Radio Circle, Mount Kisco, NY. For additional information, please visit www.mkccc.org or call (914) 241-2135. Follow MKCCC on www.facebook.com/MKCCC and www.twitter.com/MKCCC10549 for the latest news and updates.
