Top 5 Creative Food Ideas For Weddings

Modern Era Weddings has released their top 5 creative food ideas for weddings in 2011! From signature drinks to ethnic foods, see what tops their list!

Nov. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- I’m a big fan of food and being at weddings every weekend the food choices can get monotonous… chicken or beef / cake or cookies. Sometimes it’s fun to switch it up and give your guests something new and exciting to eat or drink at your wedding! Here are a few ideas we’ve picked up on the way…

5.) Mashed Potato Buffet – Who doesn’t love mashed potatoes!? A wedding we did at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort last year had food stations for dinner and one of those stations was nothing but mashed potatoes. You can choose your favorite potatoes: Yukon Gold, Baby Reds, Russet, etc. then top it with all the goods you wanted like cheese, chives, sour cream, bacon, salt & pepper. To make it a bit more unique they were served in martini glasses. (Mr. & Mrs. David and Kate Blank 5.30.10)

4.) Ethnic Food Stations – Merging 2 families together often means merging traditions and ethnicities. Being part Polish myself I grew up eating homemade polish food like pierogies, kluski, and kielbasa… I think only grandmothers can make these with perfection! But why not share your favorite foods you grew up eating with all your guests and your new extended family? A wedding we did at Soldiers & Sailors was catered by All The Best Catering, the bride was Polish and the groom was from Texas. So the cuisine for dinner was traditional Texas BBQ and true ethnic Polish foods. And it was quite an amazing spread of food to choose from! (Mr. & Mrs. Justin and Amy Williams 3.26.11)

3.) Ice Cream Buffet – Some people do cookie tables, some do cupcake towers, others do candy tables, but desserts don’t just stop there! Since I don’t eat cake because icing makes me cringe, I started doing some research on alternatives.  The 1st fun dessert idea that I really liked was the Ice Cream Buffet. We met the owners of the Marble Slab Creamery in Pittsburgh at a bridal show and they filled us in on how they will come to your wedding and use the “frozen slab” technique for ice cream preparation. Loved the idea! You choose the ice cream, you choose the toppings and they mix it together in front of you to make your own custom creation.

2.) Fresh Made Donuts – The smells of donuts is a smell that no matter who you are
you’re gonna like it. Well after dinner at a wedding a few weeks ago at the Heinz History Center the room was filled with the sweet smell of fresh donuts being made, and the guests were hooked! Peace, Love & Little Donuts catered the wedding and whipped up donuts in all different flavors, with different toppings, frostings, sprinkles and even a seasonal pumpkin flavored donut. Yum!

1.) Your Signature Drink – If you’re really have a huge blow out for your wedding and you’re expecting a huge party… then why not really blow some people’s minds with flair bartenders and your own signature drink(s)! Liquid Flair Entertainment will no doubt add that fun and exciting element to your wedding (just watch their video below and you’ll see). I always like to experiment with different drinks and flavors, and just because you’re not at a bar/club doesn’t mean you can’t get creative with the drink choices. You and your husband-to-be can come up with 1 unique signature drink together or even a custom cocktail menu! Display your signature drink/drinks on a menu card at the bar with the ingredients for guests to order.
