SALINAS, CA (November 9, 2011) The National Steinbeck Center located at One Main Street in Salinas Executive Director Colleen Bailey announced today that Esmeralda Montenegro has been hired as the National Steinbeck Center’s new Curator of Marketing and Community Engagement.
Montenegro is an Adjunct Professor of TV Production and Journalism at Gavilan College in Gilroy . She previously worked as News Anchor for Univision 67 in Monterey County , where she earned various community recognitions for her commitment to reporting issues of local interest, and also acquired an Emmy Nomination. The California Teachers’ Association acknowledged Esmeralda’s dedication to promoting education in the Central Coast with Certificates of Merit and the John Swett Award, being one of 11 awarded statewide.
She has worked with the Girl Scouts of California’s Central Coast and with the GEAR UP Program at UC Santa Cruz. In these organizations, she created workshops and programs for young girls and adults. Esmeralda graduated with a dual degree in Broadcast Journalism and Spanish from the University of Southern California and a Master of Public Administration from Notre Dame de Namur University. Some of her passions include volunteering for organizations like LULAC and being a guest speaker at career days.
