Richmond Boy with Autism Receives Tuition Scholarship
The Autism Grant awarded a two year old boy with Autism a tuition scholarship to attend the Dominion School for Autism.
“We are overwhelmed with the generosity of everyone who is a part of The Autism Grant”, said his mother, Julie. “We wanted so desperately to help Matthew, yet we knew we couldn’t afford the intensive therapy that could make a big difference in his life. This grant was our last hope.”
ABA therapy requires an intensive 1 teacher to 1 child ratio that most families of children with autism can’t afford. “Families of children with autism are often overwhelmed by the financial burden associated with treatment. We established The Autism Grant to help families in dire financial need,” said grant founder, Don Busick.
Working with children with autism requires extensive training to develop the specialized skills necessary to unlock the full potential of young children. “One of the main principles of applied behavioral analysis is the concept of positive reinforcement. It really helps when you have a family like the North’s who are so committed to using the concepts at home”, said Mandy Spear, Clinical Director at the Dominion School for Autism.
