Follow on Google News | Hampton Lake Expands Outreach with Community ActivitiesMore than 1,500 local residents joined in sponsored events in October
By: Hampton Lake “Our entire community family, which includes our property owners and homebuilders as well as our management team and employees, is committed to being an active participant in initiatives that benefit the entire Lowcountry,” To that end, Hampton Lake, which is located on a lovely, 900-acre lakefront setting at the western edge of Bluffton Township in Southern Beaufort County, has partnered with a wide variety of local organizations to help facilitate fundraising events and also support key projects. October Set a High Water Mark “October was a prime example of all the different things we get involved with,” said Lee. “We had four major activities during the month, and they ranged from a seminar to support Domestic Violence Awareness Month which benefitted CODA (Citizens Opposed to Domestic Violence) to co-hosting the Hilton Head/Bluffton Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event with WSAV.” Lee noted that the David Weekley Homes sponsored Tiger Bass Fishing Tournament and 5K run was perhaps the most impactful event of the month. The two-day outdoor activity attracted hundreds of participants and raised $14,671 for Bluffton Self Help, an organization which has served more than 22,000 needy families in the surrounding neighborhoods over the past 24 years and was recently honored by President Barak Obama at a special White House Ceremony. Forty one large-mouthed Tiger Bass were also hooked. Two of October’s events focused on women’s issues. The Self Defense Seminar was held to educate and inform women about self-defense techniques while raising money for CODA. A second “Partini” gathering, also serving as the area’s The National Spirit of Women ‘Girls Night Out’, drew 450 attendees to Hampton Lake where the participants enjoyed boat rides, waterfront massages and informative health demonstrations. It was sponsored in conjunction with Beaufort Memorial Hospital with the express purpose to call attention to a variety of women’s health issues. Chamber of Commerce Event Draws Over 200 According to Lee, these events combined with the Hilton Head/Bluffton Chamber gathering of more than 200 people (co-sponsored by the regional NBC affiliate – WSAV-TV of Savannah) totaled over 1,500 visitors to Hampton Lake during the month. “We also had a wonderful presentation by the Coastal Discovery Museum on Loggerhead Turtles during the month as part of our monthly lecture series,” said Lee, “as well as the normal semi-monthly open house program, a Lowcountry Boil and assortment of resident activities. Altogether it was a very busy time.” The community hosted a crafts fair in early November to aid the Boys & Girls Club and has another fund raiser scheduled for Bluffton Self Help, in which a Hampton Lake resident currently serves as President. Good Neighbors are Important “We want our neighbors and people all across Southern Beaufort County to experience Hampton Lake, so they can pass the word along about how unique we are,” said Lee, noting that “and inviting people to our one-of-a-kind community to benefit a local charitable organization is a win-win for everybody.” Hampton Lake has been named the “Best New Community in America ” and the “Best Community Facility in America” (2009 and 2008 respectively) End
