Denver Christkindl Market Announces 2011 “Christkindl” (Christmas Angel)

At traditional German Christmas markets the Christkindl (Christmas angel) is an important focal point. The Denver Christkindl Market announces Ms Evi Zillmer as the 2011 Christkindl. She will highlight the grand opening on November 26.

Nov. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- DENVER, Colo.  – The Christkindl, or Christmas Angel, for the 2011 Denver Christkindl Market has been chosen according to the market’s general manager, Joshua Seeberg. “This year’s Christkindl is Ms. Evi Zillmer who lives in Henderson, Colo.” he announced.

According to Seeberg the selection was based on a variety of criteria. “Foremost is the candidate’s appreciation of Christmas and the traditions surrounding it” he said, “as well as ability to speak German, poise, appearance and speaking ability. In the final analysis Ms. Zillmer rose to the top”

Born in Lübz (Mecklenburg), Germany, Zillmer is assistant to the Grants Director  at ASSE International Exchange Student Programs here in the Denver area and was previously administrative assistant to the chief executive officer of H.O. Schlüter GmbH in her hometown of Lübz. A graduate of Eldenburg Gymnasium there; she spent a year as an exchange student at Kelso High School in the state of Washington and then obtained a bachelor’s degree from Berufsakademie Mosbach in Germany. Her hobbies include music, cooking, yoga, cultures, traveling and, of course, hiking the Colorado mountains..

When asked about her selection as the Denver Christkindl she responded “This is an honor to me! I am very happy to be the representative for such a typical German tradition.” In Germany “das Christkindl” has been the traditional bringer of gifts on Christmas eve but in recent years is slowly being overtaken by “der Weihnachtsmann” (Santa Claus).

The Denver Christkindl Market, a traditional German outdoor Christmas market, opens November 25, 2011, at Denver’s Skyline Park along the 16th Street Mall according to the Colorado Chapter of the German American Chamber of Commerce (GACC).  Special events are scheduled throughout the duration of the Market including singing, music, dancing and special appearances by the German Christkindl and, of course, a German St. Nicolas.
