Nov. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- The first „Diversity Prize 2011“ from McKinsey, Henkel and the German Economics magazine „Wirtschaftswoche“ (Economics Weekly) was awarded on November 14th in Neuss (near Düsseldorf). The gala room was filled with more than 200 guests from the worlds of economics, politics and culture and the two year old Berlin start-up twago – along with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and large companies such as BASF and Google – were awarded with the “Diversity Prize 2011” in recognition of being some of the most diverse employers in Germany. The event was moderated by the German TV-presenter Barbara Schöneberger. The prize was awarded to employers, entrepreneurs and innovative working projects that have successfully fostered a culture of diversity within their working spaces. Unexpectedly twago was awarded the prize ahead of a more prominent company. “As a start-up, we are very proud to be chosen for this prestigious award” said Gunnar Berning, the twago founder. twago’s 36 employees come from 11 different countries and 50% of the company’s management section are women. “For us, diversity is no quota, diversity simply makes us better. We look for the best people to help us improve upon our 27% monthly growth rate, regardless of whether they male or female, Russian, Spanish, Italian or British” Berning explained. “We don’t talk about diversity, we live it on a daily basis” Berning continued, alluding to the topical political discussions in Europe. The award categories were separated into 4 parts; most diverse employer, most diverse company brand, most diverse personality and most diverse diversity project. The jury for the award was comprised of Frank Mattern, Mckinsey German CEO, Henkel-CEO Kasper Rorsted, ex-Bundestag President Prof. DR. Rita Süssmuth and chief editor of the economics magazine “Wirtschaftswoche” (Economics weekly) Roland Tichy. The jury were convinced of twago’s concept of diversity, “I would rather not enforce diversity within a company, but rather that it was a fundamental part of the working culture” commented Roland Tichy.
