Nov. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- The Jenkins Part-time MBA program in the North Carolina State University Poole College of Management placed 30th in Bloomberg BusinessWeek’s third biannual ranking of part-time MBA programs. It was ranked fifth among part-time MBA programs in the South. This is the first time the Jenkins part-time MBA program was ranked by Bloomberg BusinessWeek.

The ranking hinges on three major components: student satisfaction, academic quality and post-graduation outcomes, said Dr. Steve Allen, Poole College’s associate dean for graduate programs.

“Our Jenkins MBA ranked 23rd in the country on post-graduation outcomes, representing the percentage of students receiving promotions, and 18th based on average pay increase following completion of the program,” he said.

“We were ranked 37th in academic quality. Students also gave high marks for the material covered being an aid at work or in their career, the caliber of their classmates, and teaching quality,” Allen said. The program had one of the highest rates of completion among the ranked programs, 80 percent. Nearly 50 percent of the students reported receiving salary increases after completing the program, with an average increase of nearly 36 percent.

“I congratulate our Jenkins MBA team as well as our students,” said Dr. Ira R. Weiss, dean of the Poole College of Management. “Together, they are providing a challenging learning environment that is both personally and professionally rewarding. The rankings provide a snapshot comparison against other business schools, but the real measure of our program’s value is the growing network of alumni who are making an impact in their careers with the knowledge and skills they have gained.”

Bloomberg ranked 76 part-time MBA programs this year. It ranks full-time MBA programs in odd-numbered years. The magazine defines part-time programs as those that offer classes at night and on weekends and are designed primarily for working professionals, said Louis Lavelle, an editor with Bloomberg BusinessWeek, in an online chat session at which he discussed the rankings as they were being published on Nov. 10.

The NC State Jenkins MBA program established a learning center in the Research Triangle Park for its part-time option in 2006 and moved to a new facility in Morrisville, N.C., in 2010, to better serve its growing enrollment of working professionals. The part-time program currently has 292 students, with 96 in the full-time option and 31 in the online option that launched in fall 2011.

“We are very pleased with the continued growth of our part-time program, and with this recognition of the quality of our faculty, staff, and students,” Allen said.
