New Company, The Giving Goose inspires children to create artwork and give back to the community

The Giving Goose produces a line of clothing and gifts which feature the drawings of children. A portion of the proceeds from the line are donated to benefiting charities.

Nov. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- Few businesses can boast of having a 6-year old CEO, particularly one who has to spend most of her day attending elementary school; but both Dan and Nancy Sawyer of Falmouth, MA credit their daughter Bethany as the inspiration of the new family business, The Giving Goose.

Bethany’s parents describe her as a typical six year old who goes to school, plays dress up and loves to draw. But, they note, she also has a strong desire to help make the world a better place.

With the assistance of their family business, Image76 (a design, printing, mailing and screen printing company), the Sawyers have launched The Giving Goose™, a company that produces a line of clothing and gifts which feature the drawings of children. A portion of the proceeds from the line are donated to benefiting charities.

By donating a portion of the proceeds, The Giving Goose™ will achieve the goal of sharing kids’ artwork with the world while also helping others. Recently, the new company introduced its first clothing line, featuring seven designs. Five were drawn by Bethany herself and two by her friend Benjamin. The clothing line features designs that have been scanned, digitally colorized and professionally screen printed onto brightly colored t-shirts and sweatshirts for babies and children. The original designs by Bethany and her friend Benjamin include a butterfly, duck, sailboat, frog, skyscraper, sunflower and monster truck. Clothing items are baby onesies, bibs, crewneck sweatshirts, hooded pullover sweatshirts and long and short sleeve t- shirts.

The Giving Goose™ is actively seeking young artists from all over the country and urging them to submit their artwork for consideration in being chosen as one of The Giving Goose™ designs. The artists that are chosen will select their charity of choice to join the company’s group of benefiting non-profits. Creating and selling T-shirts and other items that display the artwork of young artists seemed like a promising concept in and of itself, but the Sawyers wanted the business to do more for the communities. Together, the three of them came up with the idea to donate a portion of the proceeds from product sales to selected charities – either chosen by the winning artist, or from a growing list of deserving charities that the Sawyer family has compiled.

“Bethany does not think it unusual to be an entrepreneur at six years old,” said Dan and Nancy Sawyer. “She has seen her entrepreneurial  parents work hard for her entire life.”

The original family business, Image76, specializes in working with non-profits and that has been an inspiration for Bethany’s wish to help others. Bethany’s love of art and drawing has led her to this step of incorporating her drawings and the drawings of other children into this business model. When Bethany suggested putting her artwork on tee shirts, her parents thought it would be a great opportunity to teach her about creating her own business, managing money, and giving back. Bethany is excited to share her vision and show the world that kids can make a difference.”
At its early stages, the two artists whose drawings are on the clothing line are Bethany, and Benjamin Halunen. Bethany’s drawing “Butterfly” and Benjamin’s “Monster Truck” are two of the inaugural designs, and the charities chosen to benefit from the sales include Children’s Hospital, Boston and Joslin Diabetes Center.

Artwork submissions can be uploaded to The Giving Goose website, www.thegivinggoose.com, or mailed to The Giving Goose, at 6 Little Brook Road, West Wareham, MA 02576.

The company, in addition to seeking artists, is also seeking additional charitable organizations who are interested in being on the list of organizations which are designated as a benefitting charity. The Sawyers envision having several featured artists with their creations on products in the first year of their operation, and seek to help these chosen children artists to make a difference.  The products bearing the artwork of these young artists is sold at a variety of local outlets, and is available online at www.thegivinggoose.com.
