Help Walter Stand Up To The Bullies - Bullying Awareness Week 2011
In 2010, a Canadian father was charged with assault for defending his son on the family's property when he was attacked by neighbourhood bullies.
One Canadian family has been dealing with a bullying problem for several years, trying everything in their power to make the behaviour stop. Meetings with police officers, teachers, counselors and administrators has not solved the problem. Letter-writing campaigns have not stopped the problem, and almost every day the victim of these bullies is the recipient of taunts, jeers and threats.
This family needs your help. The victim in this saga was followed home from school by a group of young people, and members of this group physically accosted the teen on his family's property. The father, upon exiting the house, saw the teens tormenting his son, and did what any father would do - he pushed the bullies off of his son. He did not pummel them with his fists. He did not beat them to the ground. He did not fire a gun at them or threaten them with any weapon. He was, however, charged with assault, and will be appearing before the court later this month.
The bullies in this case were charged with nothing - and they have continued dlwtq to taunt Walter's family* every chance they get. Dealing with this situation has brought hardship after hardship to the family. In order to help his son Walter had to leave the two well-paying jobs he had and take a lower paying part-time position. Walter's wife has fallen ill and is on a leave of absence from her job. Their son has been fighting hard to hold on to his dignity, but is losing the battle against depression. The legal bills encountered in this case, which goes to court later this month, have caused the family to put their family home on the real estate market - an action which their son feels is his fault - because he found himself the target of bullies at school.
As Bullying Awareness Week begins, seize this opportunity to take a stand against them. A defense trust fund has been started for Walter and his family at TD Canada Trust, so that those are able, can assist Walter's family and help them keep their home.
The defense fund, which is being held in trust for Walter's family, is administered by a third party, who has also created a web site at www.waltersdefensefund.ca, where you can learn more not only about this family and their fight against bullies, but about bullying movements across the country. You can also listen to the pod cast of Walter and Alex when they were interviewed by Montreal talk show host Roy Green.
If you want to help Walter and his family, donations can be made either through the PayPal link on the web site or at any branch of TD Canada Trust.
