Nov. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Jackson, Wyo. – (November 11 2011). Although living in the mountainous grandeur of Teton County, Wyoming, native Scot and photojournalist, Hamish Tear, pines for the islands of Western Scotland. During the spring of 2012, Tear has designed six tours for photographers and non-photographing companions to take part in photography workshops in these dramatic hard-to-reach islands.

“Having been born and raised there, and having learned to sail in those waters, I have a unique advantage in preparing a unique and exciting itinerary,” explains Tear.

Tear is an accomplished writer and photographer – published over 30 years in national mountaineering and sailing magazines in the UK and the USA. Even so, he recognizes that nobody knows the islands’ photographic venues better than local photographers. Thus, over the course of these two-week tours, he has collaborated with an established professional photographer on each island. “These island photographers know the tides, the best beaches, the access routes, the high-points and the best places for sunrise and sunset photography,” says Tear of this unique photo workshop opportunity. Tear will be on the tours himself as a facilitator and overall guide. Between tours, he will live on his home Island of Cumbrae.

The Hebridean islands of Scotland are so scenic that different branches of ‘landscape’ photography have been coined – ‘Islandscapes’ and ‘Seascapes’ are two specific themes that will be explored. The groups will also be having special sessions inside Scotch whisky distilleries.

Groups will travel in privately chartered coaches from Glasgow, enjoy a total of six ferry crossings from 20 minutes to two hours, and stay in finely appointed small hotels on each island. Much time will also be spent visiting the sights, and there is plenty to do for non-photographing companions.
