MPV Supports Minnesota Somali Muslims’ Efforts In Countering Radicalism Of Their Youth

Nov. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Americans have been polarized by the events in New York City 10 years ago which brought awareness of the destructive element of Muslims to people at every level of society. Somali Muslims in America have been a targeted community for recruitment to the theology of hate and suicide bombing. If there is any one community qualified to speak out and to fight back against radicalism of the Muslim youth, it would be the Somali Muslims. We commend them for doing what is right, and for working with law enforcements in countering radicalism. We in turn reject any Muslim organization who calls into question one’s qualification, validity or intent when it comes to the issue of speaking the truth about these issues. In a recent Gallup poll titled “Muslim Americans: Faith, freedom and the future” published August 2011 respondents demonstrated that none of the major Muslim organizations represent the interests of American Muslims.  (http://www.abudhabigallupcenter.com/148778/REPORT-BILINGU...). According to this latest data, CAIR, ISNA and other dominant organizations can no longer claim to be speaking on behalf of the larger American Muslim population and they should seize to silence the diversity of voices in our community.

When it comes to the issue of countering radicalism of American Muslims, it is time we all work together rather than discrediting each other’s efforts. Muslims for Progressive Values is working to counter radicalization of our youth with the online project ‘Literary Zikr’ which offers fresh perspectives on religious texts and practices in a way that is accessible to the youth.
