Frost & Sullivan: Products with Environmental Benefits to Boost Southeast Asia Air Compressor Market

End Users’ Desire to Lower Costs Particularly Benefit the Centrifugal Compressor Segment

Nov. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- Singapore – Energy efficiency is beginning to find top billing on the purchase criteria list of end users of air compressors, as manufacturing companies are becoming increasingly eager to save energy costs, reduce downtime and comply with environmental regulations.

Trends such as clean air technology as well as new-age devices such as noise-free and portable compressors are opening up several windows of opportunity for producers of innovative equipment. Consequently, manufacturers are focusing on environment-friendly, low-maintenance products to encourage the replacement of traditional equipment.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Analysis of the Air Compressors Market and its Scope for Expansion, finds that the market earned revenues of US$420.10 million in 2010 and estimates this to reach US$721.5 million in 2017. In this research, Frost & Sullivan's expert analysts thoroughly examine the following markets: oil-free (rotary, reciprocating and centrifugal) and lubricated (rotary, reciprocating).

Currently, the escalating need for 100 per cent clean compressed air has made a robust case for centrifugal compressors.

“Centrifugal compressors are designed for lubricant-free air,” says Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Vandhana Venkatesan. “These compressors are of high quality, reliable, and incur lower maintenance costs.”

Considering the air compressors market accounts for approximately 18.0 per cent of the total air and gas compression industry, potential investors are recognizing the merits of investing in it.

The Southeast Asian region is an attractive manufacturing destination to both end users as well as suppliers. Southeast Asia has a number of small- and medium-enterprises (SMEs) that thrive due to the lax environmental regulations and cheap labour.

Although these enterprises are a lucrative customer base, participants will have to stave off competition from regional, low-cost air compressors catering to the SMEs. As the technological capabilities of these device manufacturers improve, competition is quite likely to intensify.

“Market participants have to strategize for the growing end-user diversification and swelling demand for quality,” notes Venkatesan. “As direct sales comprise a significant percentage of the distribution channel, customer satisfaction is critical to gain an edge over the competition.”
