William E. Hunt of Elmhurst Group has been elected to the National Chair position of NAIOP.

Nov. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- Pittsburgh has fared far better economically than many other areas of the country; and part of the driving force behind Pittsburgh’s continuing prosperity is The Elmhurst Group. William E. Hunt, CEO & President of the Elmhurst Group, was elected to the position of National Chairman of the Commercial Real Estate Development Association (NAIOP) for 2012.  The announcement was made at the annual NAIOP meeting in Phoenix Arizona on October 20, 2011.

NAIOP is the leading organization for developers, owners and related professionals in office, industrial and mixed-use real estate. By providing unparalleled industry networking and education, along with advocates for effective legislation on behalf of members, NAIOP advances responsible, sustainable development that creates jobs and benefits communities.

As the National Chairman of NAIOP, Hunt represents not only the Elmhurst Group but also the Pittsburgh region. Over 15,000 members across North America elected Hunt to head the organization with the same innovation and stellar leadership that he brings to the Elmhurst Group and the city of Pittsburgh. Hunt will oversee the Executive Committee and Corporate Board of Directors as they continue in the advancement of commercial real estate in the communities we live in throughout North America.

“As NAIOP Corporate Chairman, Bill will bring the same dedication, enthusiasm and knowledge that he brought to his roles at the NAIOP Pittsburgh Chapter and the Pittsburgh business community,” said Leo Castagnari, Executive Director of NAIOP Pittsburgh Chapter. “In addition, his extensive travels on behalf of NAIOP will enable him to share the successes of the Pittsburgh region and elaborate on its dynamic and diverse economy.”

Hunt is a long-time member of the Pittsburgh chapter of NAIOP and has served as a board member since 2007. “NAIOP is exceptional with fostering education within the industry and encouraging members to network within their communities. NAIOP’s continuous advocacy has proved to have strong affects, not only locally, but in Washington D.C.,” said Hunt. “I’m proud to be a vital part of such an influential organization.”

The Elmhurst Group of Companies was formed in 1974 as an investment vehicle for the Hunt family. William E. Hunt is the great-grandson of Captain Alfred E. Hunt, who co-founded the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) in the late 19th century in Pittsburgh. The same vision that made ALCOA one of the world’s leading producers of aluminum is what made The Elmhurst Group one of the most successful developers of quality industrial and office properties in Western Pennsylvania.

Presently, The Elmhurst Group owns 30 buildings on 18 sites totaling over 2.5 million square feet of office, warehouse, and retail space, along with investments in several operating businesses including the 23rd largest security firm in the United States.

Hunt, a graduate of Duke University, is also well known throughout the Pittsburgh community for his dedication to charitable, civic and cultural causes.
