Shared services are seen as beneficial to business as they are known to demand fewer resources and increase efficiency by creating specialisation and standardisation, making experts within an organisation, as well as creating opportunities for consolidation and collaboration between bodies such as the Police and Health services.

However, some fears remain about shared services and outsourcing as there are practical issues associated with merging business processes and many workers have concerns that efficiency drives could lead to job losses.

In a recent SSON study, conducted in anticipation of the Shared Services & Outsourcing Exchange Asia Pacific conference in February 2012, it was found that most businesses are using transformation and shared services to improve and enhance their operations.
