Tickets On Sale This Week For Special Elvis Birthday Celebration In Memphis January 5 – 8

Three Days of Events kick-off the 35th Anniversary Year of Elvis’ Passing
 
Nov. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- MEMPHIS, Tenn.  –Elvis fans from around the world will travel in January to Graceland to celebrate the king's birthday. Numerous events are scheduled, concluding with the Elvis Presley Day Ceremony, which includes a birthday cake cutting and proclamation by both Memphis and Shelby County officials.  The new Graceland exhibit Elvis On Tour, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the film by the same name, will also be unveiled during the activities.  Tickets go on sale November 9 for the Elvis Insiders and to the general public on November 15.

Special guests include: Shane Keister, who played on several tracks for Elvis Presley on the "Promised Land" album and toured with Elvis in 1976; the former members of J.D. Sumner & The Stamps: Bill Baize, Donnie Sumner, Larry Strickland and Ed Hill, who will be sharing their memories of knowing Elvis both on and off the stage; and Jeannine Johnson, sister of Pierre Adidge who produced and directed “Elvis On Tour" with Robert Abel for which they received the Golden Globe for Best Documentary Film in 1972.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 5

Club Elvis
8:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. Elvis Presley Car Museum, Graceland Plaza
A disc jockey will spin Elvis records for fans listening and dancing pleasure.

Southern Birthday Breakfast
11:59 p.m. - 1:30 a.m. Chrome Grille Restaurant, Graceland Plaza

FRIDAY, JANUARY 6

Official Elvis Insiders Reception and Graceland Tour
7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Begins in Graceland Ticket Pavilion
An event exclusively for members of the Elvis Insiders. A private evening tour of Graceland Mansion in its entire holiday splendor and a reception across the street in Graceland Plaza. The reception will be a progressive event moving about the plaza area.  Special guests that will be meeting fans and signing autographs will be former members of J.D. Sumner & The Stamps.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 7

Gospel Concert Celebration
8:00 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. Graceland Ticket Pavilion
A celebration of the gospel music Elvis loved with former members of J.D. Sumner & The Stamps. Also performing will be gospel group Soul City from First Assembly of God, Memphis, which was Elvis’ home church for many years.

Terry Mike Jeffrey Live in Ticket Pavilion
11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Live Elvis music performed by fan favorite Terry Mike Jeffrey in the Graceland Ticket Pavilion.

Conversations on Elvis
2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Memphis Marriott East, 2625 Thousand Oaks Blvd.
Conversations on Elvis will feature segments including: former members of J.D. Sumner & The Stamps sharing their memories, and Jeannine Johnson discussing “Elvis On Tour.”  And in honor of the 30th anniversary of the 1982 opening of Graceland, there will be a special look back at opening day.

Memphis Symphony Orchestra presents Elvis Birthday Pops
8:00 p.m. The Cannon Center for the Performing Arts, 255 North Main Street
A unique concert event, featuring guest conductor Steven  Reineke and musician Terry Mike Jeffrey and his band performing some of Elvis' greatest songs.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 8

Elvis Presley Day Ceremony
9:30 a.m.  Graceland’s Front Lawn
A special ceremony with Graceland/EPE officials, a birthday cake cutting and a proclamation of Elvis Presley Day by Memphis and Shelby County officials. Complimentary birthday cake and coffee served at the Chrome Grille restaurant across the street from the mansion following the ceremony.

The public can also view the proclamation event on elvis.com via the Graceland cam.
