Lebanon, MO Organization Brings Support to Families of Children with Additional Needs

Nov. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- Being a parent is tough. Being a parent of an additional needs child can be tougher. Many parents of children with additional needs find themselves struggling to find information and support. One organization in Lebanon is changing that.

Supporters of Children with Additional Needs (S.C.A.N.) is a support group for families of children with additional needs. The organization is comprised of families coming together to build a network of support and to share information while assisting in enriching, consoling, educating, sharing frustrations, achievements, and most of all, fellowship. S.C.A.N. supports families of children with conditions such as Down Syndrome, Autism, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, and Visual Impairment, among others. The focus is on advocacy, education, socialization, community exposure, awareness, providing resources, and tolerance. S.C.A.N.’s motto says it all: “Together, we can accomplish a lot, alone we just get by.”

S.C.A.N. has taken their message to the community through various programs and initiatives, including adding adaptive equipment in area parks and Additional Chairs for Additional Needs (ACAN), a grassroots program where area restaurants provide seating for children who cannot sit in the traditional wooden chairs provided in many eating establishments. Now S.C.A.N. is bringing their support and advocacy to the internet, thanks to Whole 9 Online, a Lebanon, MO website design and internet marketing firm.
