Follow on Google News | New Fruit Wine Website Gives Fans Valuable Information On Wines, Wineries And RecipesA group of New Jersey fruit wine lovers have done the unthinkable and launched a website for those who openly—and secretly--yearn for the non-grape varieties of wine.
By: Fruit Wine Society “This is a website for those who enjoy the flavors of fruit wine and are looking for information about its history, the different types, the licensed wineries that offer them and the kinds of drink and food recipes these wines are great for,” said Mari Small, a wine marketing consultant and one of the creators of the site. “If the thought of cranberry wine with a turkey dinner tickles your palate or you lust for raspberry wine with a luscious chocolate dessert,” then Fruitwinesociety.com will interest you,” she notes. The site has already profiled two of the nation’s leading fruit wineries along with recipes from chefs and winemakers across the United States. Its creators emphasize however that this is really not a website for amateur fruit winemakers. “There are hundreds of American wineries that have been making wines for aperitif, dinner and dessert for many years,” said Small. “We want to expose wine drinkers to these wineries, the kinds of wines being offered and how wine drinkers can add them to their wine “pallets’.” Despite some disdain from oenophiles, Fruitwinesociety.com notes that fruit wine has been popular for centuries. Early European settlers in America kept out the chills in winter with fruit wines. Farmers in England, Sweden and the Normandy region of France have always produced apple and pear cider. Virtually any place in the world there is fruit, there is wine. In fact, sommeliers today might be judging wines made from fruit other than grapes if it weren’t for a group of French grape vintners worried about their business in the mid- 1800’s. This band of business savvy vintners sought to protect their industry from economic encroachment by other fruits and talked French lawmakers into passing a law declaring that wine could only be made from grapes. Even today there is a lot of contention about what defines a wine. Fruitwinesociety.com draws its information from more than 350 American wineries making both fruit and grape wines as well as chefs and fruit wine fans throughout North America. And that number is growing. Wineries in business for years have tested and produced recipes for food and beverages as well as what pairs well with different meals. Those recipes and pairings are profiled on Fruitwinesociety.com. The website was created by wine aficionados who have handled marketing for all kinds of American and French wines for more than a decade. End
