True North Recovery Services Providing Outpatient Counseling for Addiction in North County
Much needed outpatient program for the treatment of addiction and co-occurring disorders opening in North San Diego County. Very professional, upscale, talent that is top in the field.
TNRS is owned by Orange County Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine, based in Irvine, Ca and founded by Valeh Karimkhani, D.O. who is also the Medical Director for TNRS.
The program is directed by James "Kansas" Cafferty, LAADC, MCA, CSC, ICAADC, MRAS, CAMF, MFT Intern. Kansas brings over 14 years of experience in addiction and eating disorder treatment to TNRS. He has been published this year in Counselor Magazine along with David E. Smith, M.D. (Founder of the Haight Ashbury Free Medical Clinic and former President of the American Society of Addiction Medicine), Dr. Barbara Nosal (Clinical Director at Newport Academy in Orange, CA) and Scott Sowle. Their article was on the integration of multi-dimensional family therapy into a residential drug treatment program. He was also published this year in Addiction Professional Magazine with Valeh Karimkhani, D.O. (Board Certified in Addiction Medicine). Their article discussed appropriate and intelligent interaction and coordination of treatment between psychiatrists and psychotherapists in co-occurring anxiety disorders and addictions.
The program focus is on relapse prevention, communication skills, relational skills, and emotional skills, and coping skill development. Integrated into the program is a 12-step philosophy but the professional therapies most commonly in use are motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. 12-step participation is encouraged and required in treatment but is not the focus of the treatment itself.
