Nov. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- LAS VEGAS – Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has ordered that 17,000 gold bars be shipped to Venezuela to store at the country’s central bank.

According to the Latin American Herald Tribune, Chavez’s opponents insist that he plans to use the country’s gold reserves to boost his presidential campaign for next year’s election.

Reuters news service said that the 17,000 gold bars will be shipped in several cargo flights beginning in November and ending before the new year. The total cost of the operation is expected not to exceed $9 million, including transportation, guards and insurance.
