The Carr Chevy Century Celebration!

Nov. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- The bow-tie brand founded in 1911 in a rented Detroit garage by industrialist William C. Durant and Swiss-born race car driver Louis Chevrolet has been celebrated in movies and popular music many times and Chevrolet has contributed more than a few iconic models to the automotive world such as the Corvette.

"We have great plans for Chevrolet's next 100 years," said Chris Perry, vice president, global marketing and strategy for Chevrolet.

Over the last century, Chevrolet has built and sold more than 209 million cars and trucks.

The brand is currently sold in more than 140 countries and Chevrolet today sells more than 60 percent of its cars outside the United States. Chevrolet is also quickly building itself up as a budget-brand in Europe as GM takes Opel up-market to more directly compete against Volkswagen. Last year, Chevrolet sold 4.26 million vehicle around the world, making it one of the largest global automotive brands.

Many people don't realize Chevrolet is named after a real person, one of the fastest drivers from the beginning of the 20th century.

Louis Chevrolet, a Swiss immigrant and race car driver who once held the land-speed record for driving 111 mph, paired up with entrepreneur Billy Durant on Nov. 3, 1911 to start the automaker.

Their partnership was short-lived, breaking up in 1915. But Chevrolet had a lasting impact on the company. His name remains, as does the stylized Swiss cross, honoring Chevrolet's Swiss heritage. Today, the logo is referred to as the "Chevy Bowtie”.

But despite the Swiss connection, Chevrolet's image is completely American. Slogans like, "See the USA in your Chevrolet" and "Like A Rock" have resonated with American consumers for years

Chevrolet has touched our lives through the century from music to movies to adventures and even those family road trips, creating long lasting memories. From towing your boat, horse trailer or  camper trailer – Chevy got you there. The adventure of getting up the mountain or the back roads in the hills for that hunting trip – Chevy got you there.
