-- Nothing says family more than the Long Beach Island, voted the "top beach for families" in New Jersey. It’s 18 mile stretch of sugar sand beaches is highlighted by historic landmarks as the Barnegat Lighthouse, family entertainment such as the Surflight Theatre bringing Broadway to the beach for over 60 years with both children and main stage performances, Victorian theme park Fantasy island and cutting edge water park and flow rider at Thundering Surf. With free concerts in season almost every night of the week, fishing, crabbing, water sports, surfing, nature trails, birding and biking there is plenty to keep a multi generational get together busy for as short or long of as long of a reunion planned. For as busy as your family would like to be, down time is something truly savored with our visitors and residents alike, this island offers no boardwalk but several resort towns that each provide a distinctive experience in dining, shopping, history and amusements. The region also includes the historic bay front communities such as Barnegat with its rail trail, heritage village and charming downtown, Stafford Township with shopping and Paul King Lake and Tuckerton featuring the famous Tuckerton Seaport which boasts NJ’s only surfing museum, its own lighthouse and boat building classes. Planning reunions around world class festivals are also an option, such as Lighthouse International Film Festival or Jersey Shore Art Festival each June, dozens of beachside contests and activities over the summer or Chowderfest each fall.
Make it memorable with a family portrait on the beach, catered picnic, boat charter or taking a class together as a group. The options are here as well as places to say in every budget from a cozy bed and breakfast, beach side motel or single family vacation homes that provide all amenities needed such as kitchen, laundry room and plenty of sleeping space. Location is another perfect factor, 90 minutes south of New York City, 70 minutes east of Philadelphia and on a half hour north of Atlantic City it is a central location that provides the complete getaway. In the past, families have chosen LBI for its prime location and easy drive that allows everyone to gather and still have access to major cities, airports and easy day trips that give you more options to customize your time together.
