Interview with Ms. Hauser
On the occasion of the decision for ONEvision Hotel TV we made an extensive interview with Ms. Maria Hauser, Director of PR & Marketing at the Bio-Hotel Stanglwirt.
Ms. Hauser, how do you blend a 400 year tradition of the atmosphere created by your Farm in Tyrol with modern technology?
Those two different areas work quite well together. In fact, the success of the past decades would not have been possible without continuous innovations. In this respect, 400 years of tradition and modern technology complement each other, but of course you are right, it bears a certain challenge for sure.
What challenges are you seeing?
As time goes on, the gap between heavy users of modern technology and those who are not adapting to this technology is getting bigger from generation to generation. Therefore, we have to be very careful that we approach both groups in the same way with our offers.
Could you please give us an example?
IPTV is a very good example. On one hand there is a variety of endless possibilities which go far beyond what the linear TV programming offers and which is targeting a specific group, mostly young people. But on the other hand when a long-time regular German guest requests to watch the News on Channel ARD (German TV) and this suddenly turns into an intellectual challenge, we definitely have missed our goal.
Could we just ignore the requests of the young generation for a while?
We certainly could not! One of our factors of success is making children and young guests a high priority. This is reflected in the high number of regular and repeat guests to our hotel. You have to know and understand your guests first, in order to cater to their needs. Technology plays an important role in accomplishing this and we take it very seriously. We have chosen ONEvision™ from at-visions for this reason. We know they are aware of this challenge of satisfying the younger generation of tech savvy guests and the older generation that just want to be able “to watch TV”, and to do so easily.
Which other advantages are you associating with IPTV?
Definitely the options to interact and receive information back. We have such a variety of special packages and events that we offer, and this gives us another avenue to promote our services. In-room TV allows us to interact with our guests and Digital Signage can help promote our services at frequently visited locations throughout our property.
What, in your opinion, is the point of investing in technology?
The benefit comes from optimizing the efficiency of your staff who can use the technology. For example, if you have to enter the same information in different systems, you are duplicating your efforts and time spent to accomplish a single task, while also running the risk of making an error in manually entering all of this information into multiple systems. An intelligent middleware running as an interface in the background allows a single data entry and makes sure that it is distributed to all locations like the Website, In-room TV, Digital Signage or Apps. Another important point is the integration with other systems to allow direct bookings to Fidelio (PMS) as an example, or to show and book appointments with the Spa Software. All of this has to be integrated in a reasonable way into the in-house procedures as well. We feel lucky to have found a partner like at-visions who understands how the different hotel departments operate, as well as the technology available, and can guide us in the right direction to find the best possible solution.
Which part does the infrastructure play in the background?
It is the basis that everything is built upon. This is seen from another perspective as it is not obvious. For example, an appealing interface on the TV, a fast Internet connection available everywhere – these are obvious and visible to the guest immediately. Whereas things like a server, cabling, switches on the floors or access points are acting in the background. Nothing can be accomplished by itself, but the combination of these devices and the infrastructure make great things possible. And technology by itself can be useless, it takes a person who knows how to use the technology and turn this into a benefit for our hotel property and our guests. We are lucky to rely on our very professional team of staff members, long-term external consultants, and at-visions as our partner, who are all working together for one goal.
