Oct. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- Two IGCSE students at Shrewsbury International School have been named Top in the World in the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) Outstanding Learner Awards 2011.

Praewa Suntiasvaraporn was named Top in the World in IGCSE Art and Design and Sirada (Am) Sripakdeevong received the same award in IGCSE Mathematics (without coursework). Am’s achievement is all the more impressive given that he took the exam one year early.

In the A Level examinations there was further success in the creative arts at Shrewsbury with Tanya Grueneberger receiving the Top in Thailand award in Art and Design. Tanya is now studying Visual Art and Psychology at Boston University in the US.

The Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards are an annual celebration of success in IGCSE, A Level and AS Level Cambridge International Examinations.  Awards were given to 14 Shrewsbury International students for exams taken in November 2010 and June 2011 across a wide range of academic and creative subjects.

Six students received awards for outstanding achievement in all the IGCSE exams they sat in June 2011.

As well as being named Top in Thailand for Physics IGCSE, Napat (Pecky) Leelathuwanont was first place across nine Cambridge IGCSEs. Shanabodee (Merck) Paisalachpong took third place in the same category.

Cindy Horng, who was Top in Thailand in IGCSE English Literature, was first place across eight Cambridge IGCSEs and Varinthorn (Pear) Banjurtrungkajorn, who was also Top in Thailand in Physics, took first place across seven subjects.

Stefanie Leong, Senior Schools Development Manager at CIE Thailand, said: “The winning students outperformed thousands of candidates worldwide who sat examinations in Cambridge IGCSE, AS Level and A Level so it is a tremendous achievement. A great deal of hard work and dedication from the learners as well as support from their schools and families are behind these awards.”

These awards are testament to the outstanding success that our students achieved across the board in their IGCSE, AS Level and A Level exams. The number of students who gained A* passes at A Level soared to 26% which was more than double last year’s total. In IGCSE and GCSE a total of 37% gained A* grades – up from 35% in 2010.

Shrewsbury International School prides itself on its academic record and the outstanding opportunities it gives to students who graduate to the leading universities in the UK, US and around the world.
