Oct. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- Former Senator Daryl Jones co-sponsored a bill supporting equal pay for equal work and still feels attention need to be brought to this issue.   He, along with a group of men and woman are skydiving to bring attention to this and other issues women continue to face today.  The Miami Skydiving Center will be welcoming a group of Wings on Women supporters that have been working to assist women through empowerment, training and providing resources.  The group will meet at the center on November 11th at 12:00 for a tandem jumping clinic then rally for their chosen issues they’ve selected to jump for.  Priscilla Dames, Founder and CEO of Wingspan Seminars, a small Miami- based business, is passionate about the disparities between the numbers of bids and contracts awarded to men vs. women in Miami-Dade County. She states that though there are multiple concerns that the small business faces, including the lack of federal and state funds that trickle down, the minorities including women, are hit doubly.   Ms. Dames commented, “As we and our supporters collectively bring attention to the additional challenges women face, we grow stronger and more forthright in our quest for equity.  Statistics show that women are opening businesses at twice the rate of men and in spite of the challenges and additional obstacles, are finding success through resourcefulness, management skills and collaboration.”  Some of the other issues participants are jumping for are domestic violence, fitness and health and workplace discrimination.
A reception for the skydivers will be held the next day, Saturday, November 12th, at Ligne Roset, a designer gallery, 160 NE 40th Street, 7:00 pm-8:00 pm.   The celebration includes a 10-15% off of selected items for the attendees.  The public is welcome to attend, and then continue the Art+ Design Walk throughout the Miami Design District.
If you’d like to join the group, call Martin Audit, 305-397-3752 at the Miami Skydiving Center.
