Relay supporters celebrate fundraising success

Oct. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- Earlier this year, supporters of the all female fundraising group surpassed their own previous achievements when their “Relay for Life” raised £110,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Now the group have learned that funds raised through the event have topped those achieved at all forty three Relay for Life events held across the country this year.

The news was announced at the weekend by Sarah McPhee, Cancer Research UK’s area volunteer manager, at an event held in honour of relay supporters.

The event, which took place at Skipton’s Rendezvous Hotel, was organised by the founder of Ribble Valley and White Rose Ladies, Karen Weaving, who runs the Rendezvous Hotel with husband Malcolm.

Over one hundred cancer patients, survivors, their friends and family enjoyed a drinks reception, supper and speeches. Supporters aged eight to eighty cheered as a cheque for £95,000 was presented to Miss McPhee. The remaining £15,000, which has been pledged by businesses in the Skipton area, is due to be handed over next month.

Karen said, “The relay, which is our biggest fundraiser, is a truly inspiring event that unites all those touched by cancer.”

“We’ve already begun to plan next year’s relay event and want to involve everyone from the area who has been affected by cancer. We’re especially keen to hear from local businesses that may be able to support the event, as well as people keen to form their own relay team”, she added.

Sarah McPhee said, “The fundraising prowess of Ribble Valley and White Rose Ladies and their supporters is remarkable. Their efforts help Cancer Research UK in carrying out vital research into childhood cancer.”
